After 17 years of faithful service our old dragon boat, first donated by the Columbia Basin Trust, has been replaced. Luckily it was able to find a home with the newly formed Kaslo Dragon Boat Club and will help them get off to a good start. The Robusters have also decided to provide the Kaslo team with wooden paddles and other equipment that we have replaced over the years. The new dragon boat, a lighter and more modern version of the old boat has seats for 20 paddlers, as well as a steers person and a drummer. The team was thrilled to welcome back team member Trudi Toews to steer for our maiden voyage. We also wish to thank team member Colleen Jones and her husband, who made the trip to Vancouver to pick up the new boat. Trailering a craft that is almost forty feet long is no easy task. It has taken a lot of effort from many people to get this new addition to our team into the waters of Christina Lake. We appreciate that so many people have bought our calendars and offered donations to support our program for breast cancer survivors and associates over the years. We were pleased that no grant money was needed to purchase this new boat. |
